Is the Myntra Discount Real? What the % Off Badge Measures

Myntra's % off badge is arithmetic against a reference price. One outside site says that is the brand MRP, not last week's price. A 5-minute check by hand.

Is the Myntra discount real?

Short answer

Myntra's percentage badge is correct arithmetic against a reference price, which PriceHistory.app says is the brand's MRP. It is not measured against what the item sold for last week. So a big badge shows distance from MRP, not a recent saving. Compare the same item at other stores and against your own dated screenshots.

That is the whole idea. The rest of this page explains what the badge measures, what Myntra's own pages say, what the MRP rules do and do not cover, and a five-minute check you can do by hand.

This is the Myntra-specific page. For the general method see is that discount real?, for the arithmetic see MRP vs selling price, and for the weeks before an event see was the price raised before the sale?. We accuse no brand or seller here.

What does Myntra's % off badge actually measure?

The badge is the gap between today's price and a struck-through reference price. PriceHistory.app, a price-history site that sells its own tracking app, says Myntra "calculates its percentage from the MRP", not from recent selling prices. That is the site's own claim. We found no Myntra page defining the struck-through price, so confirm it on your listing.

What Myntra's own pages do show is that MRP is a working base. Its FAQ says that for certain products, the maximum discount, product discount and coupon together, can be capped at a fixed percentage of product MRP. And it says the original product tag with the MRP stays on items inside a gift parcel.

Myntra's Terms of Use, last updated 22 July 2026, add something else worth knowing. They say commercial terms, "price" among them, are offered by and agreed between buyers and sellers, and that Myntra does not determine them. In plain words, the platform presents prices that sellers set.

Why can an MRP-based percentage mislead on fashion?

A brand sets the MRP and it does not move day to day with the market, so a shirt can be listed far below its MRP for months. Then every day is "60% off" and the badge stops telling you anything about today. The badge is a distance from a fixed number.

Fashion makes this sharper for a few reasons. Many items come in many sizes and colours, and each can have a different price. Brands sell the same style across several stores. And there is no standard "last price" that most buyers remember, the way they remember a phone price.

Two outside sites have tried to quantify it, and both come with limits.

Two independent claims, read as their own claims
SourceWhat it saysLimits we can see
PriceHistory.app (Myntra page)On a sample of 107 Myntra listings, it says the median MRP sat 186% above the price products actually sell at, and that on 80% of listings the MRP was at least double the typical selling price.Small sample. The page gave no collection date we could find. We have not seen the method, so we cannot confirm how listings were chosen.
Zoutons (kurta analysis)It says it read 131 kurta listings on 1 September 2026 and found only 49 distinct MRPs, with one figure, ₹2,199, repeating on 13 listings.Four category pages, first page only. Zoutons itself says it cannot verify any item was ever sold at its MRP and that this is not a claim any seller did anything improper.

Treat both as one outside view each. Neither is HAULS data, and neither proves anything about a particular listing. The reasonable takeaway is narrow: on fashion, an MRP-based percentage can be a weak guide, so check the item you care about.

What does it look like in rupees?

The numbers below are made up to show the pattern. They are not from a real listing, and no real brand or seller is meant.

Illustrative example, not a real listing
MRP on the struck-through price₹2,999
Badge reads '60% off', price₹1,199
Usual price over the previous 3 weeks (your screenshots)₹1,299
Same item, another store₹1,249
Price after a hypothetical 10% card offer on Myntra₹1,079

Here is the arithmetic:

  • Against MRP: (2,999 − 1,199) ÷ 2,999 = 60.0%. This is the badge.
  • Against the usual price: (1,299 − 1,199) ÷ 1,299 = about 7.7%. This is the saving that matters if you would have bought it any week.
  • After a made-up 10% card offer: 1,199 − 120 = ₹1,079, which is about 17% below the usual price. The offer, not the badge, did most of the work.
  • Against the other store: 1,249 − 1,079 = ₹170 cheaper on Myntra, but only after the card offer. Without it, Myntra is ₹50 cheaper.

None of that makes the badge wrong. It makes it the least useful of five numbers.

How do you check a Myntra listing by hand in five minutes?

Screenshot the listing, find the same item at other stores, apply any offer to get the real payable price, then compare that with your own earlier record. Six steps:

  1. Pin down the exact item. Note the style name, colour, size and seller. Prices can differ by variant, and mixing them is how people think a price moved.
  2. Take a dated screenshot. Capture the price, the struck-through number and the badge, with the date and time visible. Add the size you would buy.
  3. Find the same item elsewhere. Search the style name and article code on Ajio, Amazon and the brand's own site. Screenshot those prices too. A match is not guaranteed, since stores often stock different variants.
  4. Work out the effective price. Apply any bank or card offer or coupon in the cart and read the final payable amount, including delivery. Offers can have caps and conditions, so the badge cannot tell you this.
  5. Do the three sums. Gap to MRP, gap to your earlier screenshot, and gap to the cheapest other store. Decide on the last two.
  6. Repeat in a few days. One screenshot cannot show a trend. Two or three weeks of screenshots give you a usual price. The method is the same as in was the price raised before the sale?, and for how far back to look see how far back to check price history.

If you have a past order for the same item, your order summary is another dated record. For checking other stores more systematically, see how to compare prices on Amazon, Flipkart and Myntra.

Does the Myntra sale name tell you the discount is real?

No. An event name such as EORS says a campaign is running, not that a given price is lower than usual. Myntra's own FAQ confirms End of Reason Sale and Big Fashion Festival exist, and that Insider members get select events a few hours early. That is all we could confirm.

We could not find confirmed 2026 dates on Myntra's own pages, and dates elsewhere are often estimates. Open the Myntra app for the current date rather than trusting a calendar. See the India sale calendar for how we handle unconfirmed dates.

What matters more than the date is the weeks before it. The same checks apply, and the screenshot log is how you do them.

What do the MRP rules cover, and what don't they?

The Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 2011 define the "retail sale price" as the maximum price at which a packaged commodity may be sold to the consumer. Rule 18 says no retail dealer or other person may sell a packaged commodity above that retail sale price. That makes MRP a ceiling.

We did not find in the text of the Rules anything saying that a product must have actually sold near its MRP before a platform uses it as a discount reference. We are not lawyers, and this is not legal advice. Whether a given price display is misleading is for the regulator and the courts.

One real action is worth knowing about, and it is a different issue. In September 2025, India's consumer regulator fined an e-commerce company ₹2 lakh because listings said "MRP inclusive of all taxes" while extra GST was added at checkout, according to Prasar Bharati. The report does not name the company, and we are not suggesting it was Myntra. It is a reminder to read the cart, not just the listing. On Myntra, its FAQ says discounted prices shown have been inclusive of all taxes, including GST, for orders from 15 November 2019.

What can price-history tools see on Myntra?

Only what they have watched, and we found no price-history graph on Myntra's own listing pages. Amazon India has an in-app price history view, reported by Business Today in November 2025, showing 30 and 90 days, and that article does not mention Myntra. For a short Hinglish walkthrough of a manual 30-day log, see Myntra price history kaise check kare.

Third-party sites and extensions say they track Myntra. We have not tested any of them, so we do not rate them. Ask three things of any tool. How long has it watched this exact listing? Does it separate sizes and colours? Does it show a gap, or say "unknown", when it has no data? A graph that begins last Tuesday cannot tell you about last month.

What can't you tell by hand?

You cannot see a price you did not record, and you cannot see why a price moved. A hand check is a dated record of what you saw, not proof of intent. Six limits to keep in mind:

  • You cannot see the past. Without your own earlier screenshot or order, you cannot prove what the price was last month.
  • You cannot see why. A price change may reflect stock, brand repricing or a sale plan. A record shows what happened, not intent.
  • Short dips are invisible. A price that lasted a few hours may never appear in your screenshots.
  • Matches are imperfect. The same-looking shirt on another site may be a different cut, fabric or batch.
  • You cannot see the MRP's history. Nothing on the page tells you whether the MRP was ever charged.
  • Offers shift. Card and coupon terms change often, so a saving that exists today may not next week.

What should you do before buying on Myntra?

If you need the item this week and the real saving is a few percent, buy it. A small real saving is still a saving. If you do not need it, wait and keep the screenshot log.

Do not judge by the badge. Judge by the final payable amount, against the same item elsewhere, against your own record. That works with a phone and a notes app today.

HAULS is in closed beta. It is being built to compare a sale price with prices it has itself observed, and to say "unknown" where it has not watched a listing. It is not available to the public yet and has no Myntra data to show. Until it is, the manual check above is the method that works.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Myntra discount real?

The arithmetic is real; what it is measured against is the question. PriceHistory.app says Myntra's percentage is calculated from the brand MRP, not from recent selling prices. A 60% badge means 60% below that reference. Whether you save 60% against what the item usually sells for is a separate check.

Does Myntra show fake discounts?

We cannot say that of any brand or listing and accuse nobody. We can say the percentage badge depends on a reference price the seller supplies. Zoutons, a coupon site that uses affiliate links, says it could not verify that items it looked at ever sold at that reference. Check each item yourself.

Is Myntra's discount calculated on MRP?

PriceHistory.app says so, and Myntra's own FAQ describes coupon caps as a percentage of product MRP, which shows MRP is used as a base. We found no Myntra page that defines the struck-through price. So treat it as MRP-based, but confirm on the listing.

Is the Myntra EORS sale real?

The event name does not decide it. Each listing is its own case: compare the sale price with the same item's usual price over the weeks before, and with other stores. Myntra's FAQ confirms End of Reason Sale exists. We could not confirm any 2026 dates from Myntra's own pages.

How do I check Myntra price history?

We found no price-history graph on Myntra's own listing. Note the price for your exact size and colour with a dated screenshot, repeat every few days, and compare the same item on Ajio, Amazon and the brand's site. Third-party tools exist, but see what you cannot tell by hand.

Is a high MRP illegal?

We give no legal opinion. The Legal Metrology Rules define the retail sale price as the maximum price a packaged commodity may be sold at and bar selling above it. The text we read does not say an item must ever have sold near MRP. Whether a display misleads is for the regulator.

Is the percentage off the same as what I save?

Only if the reference price is what the item normally sells for. If the usual price is already well below MRP, the real saving is smaller than the badge. Work out the gap to the usual price, then subtract any card or coupon offer, and use that figure to decide.

Do bank offers make the price lower than the badge shows?

They can. Offers apply at checkout and often have caps and conditions, so the effective price is what you see in the cart after applying them. Myntra's FAQ says coupon discounts can be capped to a fixed percentage of MRP. Always compare the final payable amount, not the badge.

Myntra ka discount real hai ya fake?

Hisaab sahi hota hai, par woh MRP ke mukable hota hai, pichhle hafte ki keemat ke mukable nahi. Isliye badge dekh kar nahi, apni screenshot se same item ka usual price, aur Ajio, Amazon aur brand site ki keemat se compare karein. Kisi seller par aarop nahi lagaya ja raha.

Does HAULS show Myntra price history today?

No. HAULS is in closed beta and its browser extension is not public yet, so it has no price data to show you. It is being built to compare a sale price with prices it has itself observed and to mark unwatched prices as unknown. Until then, the manual check here works.
