Price dropped after you bought: what the stores actually say

If you paid ₹7,999 on Monday and the same item shows ₹7,499 on Wednesday, the ₹500 gap feels like yours. The stores have not written it down that way, at least not on the pages we could read. Below is what each page says, what that leaves you, and a flow to follow today.

Do Flipkart, Amazon and Myntra offer price protection in India?

None of the three pages we read describes price protection or a price-drop refund. Amazon.in's Price Matching page says Amazon does not offer price matching because it is a marketplace and all prices are determined by sellers. That page is about matching other retailers, not about adjusting your order, and we found no Amazon page that promises a refund when its own price falls after you buy. Flipkart's policy page covers cancellation and returns and does not mention price changes. Myntra's FAQ says sellers set prices and describes returns, not adjustments.

An absence on a page is not proof that no store ever makes an exception. It means no published promise you can point to. Treat any adjustment as a favour you ask for, not a right you claim. Some users report Flipkart offering a 'claim price drop' option on certain orders during past sales. We could not verify that or find it on the pages we read, so check the cancellation menu on your order.

What does each store's own page say?

Windows differ by product on all three stores. Always read the window on your item's own page.

Can I cancel and reorder at the lower price?

Yes, if the order has not been delivered. Flipkart says you can cancel any time before dispatch. Amazon says cancel from Your Orders before shipping, and for a shipped order offers Request Cancellation or refusing delivery. Myntra's FAQ allows cancellation while the option shows in My Orders.

Check what you lose first. A coupon, bank offer or sale slot attached to the first order may not carry over to the new one. Stock can run out, and the price can move back up. Flipkart notes a cancellation fee can apply after a category's window.

Can I return a delivered item and rebuy it cheaper?

Sometimes. This works only if the item is returnable, inside its window, and in the condition the store requires. Amazon's help says products can be returned for damage, defects or a different description, and also for a change of mind, for items marked returnable. Myntra says returns and exchanges are allowed "for any reason" within the period on the product page. Flipkart lists windows by category, with replacement only for some categories.

Do the sums before you press return. Refunds can take days, and the new price may rise again before you rebuy. Flipkart says refunds on returns are processed once the seller receives the product. Myntra's FAQ lists refund timelines after a successful return pickup that depend on how you paid, from 1 day for UPI to 7 days for netbanking, and says pickup can take 4 to 7 days.

Which route fits: a worked example

In this example, the gap is 6.3% of the price (₹500 divided by ₹7,999). Now suppose a ₹750 bank offer applied to your first order, so you actually paid ₹7,249. If that offer would not apply to a new order at ₹7,499, reordering would cost you ₹250 more (₹7,499 minus ₹7,249). Whether a given offer carries over depends on its own terms, so read them before you decide. If it is delivered and not returnable, the ₹500 is probably not recoverable on the pages we read, and a polite support request is the only route left.

What to do today: step by step

1. Confirm the drop is the same item. Match seller, size or variant, colour and storage. Another seller's lower price is not a drop on yours.
2. Screenshot it now. Capture the listing with price, seller and date, then your order page showing the amount paid. See the list below.
3. Check the order status. Not shipped, shipped, out for delivery or delivered decides your options.
4. If not delivered: weigh cancelling and reordering against lost offers. Cancel in the app's orders section, never by ignoring the delivery.
5. If delivered: open the item's return details. If it is returnable and inside its window, decide whether the return and rebuy is worth the delay.
6. Ask support once, in writing. Send the screenshots and the order number, and ask whether any one-off adjustment is possible. Do not expect a yes.
7. Stop there if the answer is no. Do not keep cancelling and reordering to chase small gaps. Amazon's cancellation page says it may charge a fee or suspend accounts if customers excessively cancel after shipping or do not accept orders.

How to document a price drop

Keep proof that is dated, specific and easy to read.

• Your order confirmation or invoice, showing the date and amount paid.
• A screenshot of the listing at the lower price with the time visible, covering seller name, size or variant and any coupon.
• The same listing from before the drop, if you saved it.
• Your support chat or email, plus any reply.
• Any reference or grievance number.

What about consumer protection rules?

We did not find a rule we could verify that requires a store to refund a later price fall, and we are not claiming one exists or does not. We found nothing in the cited pages that treats a later price fall, by itself, as a grievance. A different case is being charged above a printed MRP, or being misled about a price. What not to do

• Do not cancel a delivered order. Delivered orders are returned, not cancelled. Use the return option, inside the window, and follow the item's conditions.
• Do not refuse delivery just to reorder cheaper. Amazon's cancellation page says it may charge a fee or suspend accounts if customers excessively cancel after shipping or do not accept orders.
• Do not trust "price drop refund" websites, calls or links. None of the stores' pages we read describes one. Never share an OTP, card details or UPI PIN. Use only the store's own app, website and Help section, or the helpline's official site.
• Do not mix up a price fall with a fake discount. A price falling later is different from a "was" price that was never charged. See is that discount real?.
• Do not keep chasing every ₹100. Support time and offers lost often cost more than the gap.

Prevention: buy with a floor in mind

You cannot undo this purchase, but you can change the next one. Check the listing's price history before buying, set an alert rather than refreshing, and if a sale is near, ask whether waiting a few days is realistic for you. Price-drop alerts on Amazon India covers the built-in options.
